Though valued by indigenous peoples for generations, this rare cultivar was seldom seen beyond the island. Vincent Lebot, Mark Merlin and Lamont Lindstrom mentioned Silesse in “Kava: The Pacific Elixir” (1997), but its availability remained limited.
