Borogoru

Borogoru is one of Vanuatu’s best-known and most widely cultivated noble cultivars. The cultivar originated on Pentecost Island but has spread to other islands over time, including Espiritu Santo, where our Borogoru is grown. The name “Boro” means “small” and refers to the cultivar’s root architecture, which grows shallow and broad rather than deep and fibrous.

Aromatically, Borogoru is peppery at the front with fresh herbaceous notes through the middle and a distinct anisic undertone. The base is dense and heavy, giving the cultivar a weight the lighter cultivars do not carry. Pigment colour ranges from gold through to amber brown.
