A distinguished noble cultivar from the bushlands of Malekula, Vanuatu’s second-largest island renowned for its rich cultural heritage and agricultural treasures. Silesse has been carefully cultivated for generations in the traditional kava gardens of Northern Malekula, where the year-round heat, humidity, and nutrient-rich black soil create ideal growing conditions.
This rare variety produces a fine powder of exceptional quality. When prepared with water, it creates a smooth solution with a uniquely refined aroma profile featuring buttery and nutty notes complemented by subtle hints of tropical fruits. The solution presents a rich medium-brown hue, distinct from other cultivars.
Our Silesse comes from small family farms in Northwestern Malekula, including the gardens of Joseph Oscar, a fourth-generation farmer who maintains traditional cultivation methods. The plants are harvested after 7 years of growth, ensuring optimal development of the roots’ natural properties.
